The City of Port Wentworth Code Enforcement Division helps to ensure the safety and welfare of the City and its citizens by enforcing City Ordinances and Codes in residential and commercial districts. The Code Enforcement Division also assures compliance to the laws set for occupational taxes (business license) and other forms of permitting.
One Police Officer is assigned to the Division of Code Enforcement and Community Services, which includes Community Watch and Crime Prevention.

Notice of Violation
When addressing violations, due process is provided to all code violators. Code Enforcement issues verbal warnings, written notices and summons to appear in Municipal Court. Any person violating any of the provisions stated in the Code of Ordinances can be fined up to one thousand dollars ($1,000.00).

Possible violations include

  • Dilapidated housing
  • Illegal dumping
  • Illegal signs
  • Immediate safety concerns
  • Junk vehicles
  • Overgrown grass or lots
  • Property maintenance 
  • Zoning issues 

Issues that are NOT code violations

  • Civil disputes between private parties 
  • Evictions 
  • Personal grievances
